In contemporary urban life, the commodification of intimacy embodies a striking paradox: it is everywhere, yet eludes true recognition. Taking the common solicitation card found in Chinese cities as its starting point, this work asks: how does the erotic transaction navigate the dual states of visibility and invisibility within public space?
Fangdan's work seeks to unravel the contradictory imagery crafted by the solicitation card in public space: the body it depicts is simultaneously hyper-visible and conspicuously “absent,” both subjected to scrutiny and systematically erased. Shifting to private spaces, the work endeavors to reimagine and reveal the real, hidden bodies veiled by emotional alienation, offering a reflective lens on this intricate social dynamic.
