Fakefuturism by Yixin Ran
China, 2024.
MoMS is pleased to present a new film by Chinese artist Yixin Ran.
"This is a film shot in my created future world, where Fake Culture fosters global equality, turning Utopian ideals into reality. Through a blend of found footages, animation, and real shooting scenes, this work humorously merges Asura, human, and animal divisions from the six great divisions in the wheel of karma in Chinese Buddhism. It explores how China uses Fake Culture to reclaim Western capitalism’s products, offering a method to challenge dominant powers. While facing criticism, which is negative and opposing discourses far outweighing its positivity and support, Fake Culture still remains a potent tool in bridging class gaps. Is blindly suppressing, criticizing, and denying Fake Culture really a good thing? This work aims to globally introduce and reveal the genuine power and essence contained in Fake Culture."
